DISCLAIMER:
CYP has compiled a list of IMG friendly programs which have interviewed and/or matched Pakistani Physicians in the last three to four years. This list is available by request at info@cyponline.net or by joining CYP on filling one of the two appropriate membership forms. Please use this list carefully since all of the programs would have different requirements, for example, scores and US clinical Experience. For more definite information, Please contact the respective programs. The Young Physicians Committee would encourage potential applicants to utilize other resources as well. We are not responsible for any errors. The Young physicians committee or its members can be contacted for further info or guidance. Good luck. We hope that INSHALLAH everybody matches.

APPNA HOUSE

This year Committee on young physician has started a new project of providing subsidized temporary accommodation to incoming young Pakistani Physicians who will spend a few months in US to do elective/ research or appear in residency interview and CS exams.  Project is named "APPNA House" and was approved by APPNA Council in the spring meeting of 2009 at the chair's request. In July Committee rented an apartment in Bronx New York, which is being managed and supervised by young volunteers of the committee.

Here is a brief description of the first "APPNA HOUSE":

  1. APPNA HOUSE is a spacious residential facility in Bronx, NY. It consists of 3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, 1 big lounge and a kitchen. It has cable set up for internet connection.
  2. APPNA HOUSE has the capacity to accommodate at least 10-15 residents at one time. Currently 5 young physicians are residing there.
  3. Grocery shops and subway stop 174th street for No. 2 and No.5 trains are at almost 5-7 minutes of walking distance.
  4. Residents will pay $25 /week & $100/ month + share the cost of groceries and electricity bill per month.
  5. One senior resident will be in charge of maintaining the monthly accounts, collecting money and assigning various duties of upkeep of apt.
  6. One assigned member of CYP visits the apt. frequently (2-4 times / month) and provides supervision & keeps all records.

Please note that residents sign an MOU and abide by the established rules of the facility.

Our next goal is to establish similar residencies in Chicago, Houston, Philadelphia and other major cities. To apply for accommodation register as applicant with CYP

INTEREST FREE LOAN

Interest Free Loans for Young Physicians

1. Objectives:
To give interest free loans in the form of Qarz al Hasana in order to help those Pakistani physicians and students who are in need of financial assistance.  At the same time, it will be ensured that this scheme will remain viable in the long-term, through the establishment of good administrative infrastructure, which should include strict, yet compassionate rules and regulations in regard to return of loans, based on first and foremost, mutual trust and then legal contractual obligations between the committee on young physicians and the beneficiaries. There will be strict accountability of committee funds.

2. Establishment of the Fund:

A. Infrastructure:
This fund will be used for loans that will give Loans with condition of easy repayment without incurring an interest.

B. Fund-raising:
It will be through funds raised or allocated for the committee by APPNA, raised by members of the CYP, and by volunteers all across the country from the platform of APPNA. No donation or gift or contribution by any individual or group will be refused, once the CYP committee has been duly informed and its consent obtained.  Effort will be made to gain volunteers and supporters from physicians who have benefitted from efforts of APPNA and CYP.

3. Dissemination of Loans:
Conditions for return of loans will be established through mutually agreed terms and in keeping with the interest free spirit of the project and it will be ensured that no undue hardship or inconvenience is caused to any party. The viability of the project will be maintained by ensuring that details of all loan agreements exist in writing and are legally binding in the form of a contract in order to achieve a timely return of all loans keeping in mind that the only true objective of the committee is indeed community service and assistance. The legally binding contract will be drawn up in the presence of an authorized representative of the CYP, the borrower and the guarantors and it will include all details of the agreement including actions that will be resorted to, in the event of non-repayment of the loan. Guarantors will also be included as signatories of the legal agreement. They will be identified by both parties and will include but may not be limited to respectable members of the community. No discrimination will be allowed based on gender in this regard. The term of the loan will be one year, unless clearly and explicitly stated and agreed by both parties.  Return of the loan can begin after a year and in accordance with a mutually agreed upon installment plan, not including any interest amount. In the event that the loan is not or cannot be returned within the specified period, a written statement (signed by the borrower as well as his guarantors) will be submitted to the CYP in a timely manner, of the need for more time, as well as details of the desired new repayment plan. Every effort will be made by both parties, with assistance of the whole community to avoid legal recourse. In the event that a dispute becomes imminent, it will first be handled by an already agreed upon committee, comprising of arbiters from within the community.  Matters will only be taken to civil court after a failure to achieve implementation of decisions made by the community’s arbitration committee.
